Obstacle Gym
Obstacle gym is an afterschool fitness and nutrition program that provides exercise and nutrition that targets all gross motor skills as well as cardiovascular fitness in fun and varied sessions with innovative ideas to maintain the children's interest (special activities, ball play, games, scooter boards) while monitoring progress. Thus, each obstacle station is designed to facilitate improvement in a certain skill area while infusing nutrition information throughout the activity sessions. Children will receive nutrition information that includes: portion size, healthy snacks, family meals and healthy choices. The Obstacle training will improve equilibrium, agility, speed training, body strengthening and overall fitness. The main goal of the obstacle gym is to be fun-not-boring, fitness made fun in a structured environment. The Obstacle Gym classes will have structured assistance throughout the session as well as modify obstacles for overweight or disabled children. The professional staff is focused on the whole child to foster self-esteem and provide positive role modeling for the child. The children will understand how lifetime fitness is essential and can be fun!
Yoga for School
Yoga is a discipline that can lead kids on the path toward a calm and balanced mind, as well as help them build a strong and flexible body - tools they can use in their everyday lives. In the Yoga for School program the children practice breathing exercises and explore how to change their feelings by changing their breathing. They do simple yoga poses, such as the downward-facing dog and the bound angle. The use of animated poses and basic stretching exercises promote strength, flexibility as well as coordination and body awareness. During the program they will chant self-esteem boosters and play kinesthetic games. The visualization techniques that are used during the session will teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control.
Junior Golf
(Program grade 4 - high school)
Junior golf will provide instruction on how to play golf, build lasting friendships and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment, preparing them for a lifetime of enjoyment with the game. The program will provide students with the chance to develop socially, emotionally and physically there individual potential. The team-based approach provides the vital
social components to enrich self-esteem. The team members will work closely with mentors in the field of health and sports to make positive connections with role models. The participants complete the program with a stronger sense of identity, a greater acceptance of themselves, a healthier body image and an understanding of what it means to be part of a team.
Program
• Each session opens and closes with positive words from the coach regarding individual and group behaviors
• The golf program teaches very specific and well-defined social and personal skills. The program culminates with golf team members playing at several courses to showcase their new found skills. This is truly their chance to shine and enjoy their overwhelming sense of accomplishment.
• Students are learning values inherent to the game of golf, such as practice, respect, perseverance, and honesty, preparing them to meet challenges of today's world with confidence.
• The golf program provides a solid foundation for participants who want to play for fun with friends and family, to compete at the high school, college, and/or local, state, and national levels or to learn for future career purposes, both inside and outside the golf industry.
• The program will give young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.
Participants also are more likely than non-participants to apply life skills, such as a positive decision making, communication skills and goal setting, to their daily lives.
