Over 250 Attend “The Perfect Storm”

Over 250 people turned out at the Pearl River Hilton on April 15 for Wellcore’s event “The Perfect Storm,”  to learn about the prescription drug epidemic in our area.

Attendees heard from Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jay Flaherty of the Drug Enforcement Administration, and a panel that included Adolescent and Addiction Specialist Ellen Elias, Senior Vice President, Prevention & Community Services of Children’s Aid & Family Services; Undersheriff Robert Van Cura, President of Our Community Against Drug Abuse (OCADA); and a parent who spoke from the heart about her family’s personal experiences with the prescription drug crisis. The event was featured on News 12 Hudson Valley.

Feedback about the event was exceptional. As one participant said, “Great job! The Perfect Storm was very informative. The mother who spoke of her own journey with her daughter’s addiction was awesome. Kudos to you for another job well done!”

Wellcore was also proud to receive a Letter of support from New York State Senator David Carlucci’s office commending our work on events such as The Perfect Storm, which “ brings together local and state government agencies, non-profit organizations and other community partners to serve the needs” in the community.
